Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was superb as his side beat Manchester City to move 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table. And Andy Robertson perfectly summed up his teammate at the final whistle.
"I can't be bothered talking about him to be honest! No, he's been unbelievable," Robertson told the BBC following the Reds' 2-0 win at the Etihad Stadium. Salah is now on 50 goal contributions for the season — 30 goals and 20 assists — and he is having a Lionel Messi-like campaign under Arne Slot. He has even become the first player in Premier League history to be involved in 40 or more goals (either scoring or assisting) in two separate campaigns, having done so this year and in 2017/18.
With only three days between the game with Aston Villa midweek and this one, there was little time to recover, prepare and then travel away from home again. But it was a well-worked Liverpool training ground set-piece that broke the deadlock.
"A set piece routine worked, which is pleasing," Robertson continued. "Everyone had a role to play and Mo got the glory of putting it in the back of the net
"Another goal and assist. His work rate going back the other way was unbelievable today, him and Lucho [Diaz] and that was key to us keeping a clean sheet. He is on a different world right now and playing out of his skin. We are very happy to have him, that's for sure."
Salah is leading the way in the race for the Golden Boot and surely has to be the leading contender for the Ballon d'Or at this stage. His case will only be furthered should Liverpool win the Premier League title, with the Reds eyeing a long run in Europe too.
"There is no secret," Slot said live on Sky Sports. "We are 11 points clear but Arsenal has one game in hand. The best attack we had didn't end in a goal.
"You always have to adapt to the challenge you have. A week ago we experienced how difficult Wolves at home was. They will always be difficult games, like today.
"It is easier for us to not get excited because we know what we have to put in. This result was more about defense than attack. It is normal for fanbases to be positive and it is important to understand why we are where we are."
Liverpool.com says: Salah is simply sensational. His numbers say everything about how good he is in the final third but he was working so hard going the other way as well. He really did his bit, spending much of the second half at right-back and taking one for the team when that was required.
